Just hours ago, Instagram posted their first sponsored post, or advertisement, on their highly popular mobile platform and needless to say, people are leaving an array of comments about how unhappy they are. Users became unhappy with the now Facebook owned application when it first announced that ads would be coming to their platform weeks ago.
People had a lot of negative things to say about advertisements taking over their newsfeed but Instagram has made it very clear that they are approaching this with extreme care. They want to make sure it’s not overdone and that it makes sense for all three parties involved: brands, users and Instagram.

You will notice that in the upper right hand corner of the image, it says “sponsored”. This is to alert you that this image is a paid advertisement. Besides that, the picture comes across your feed like any other would. In the bottom right hand corner you may click the “…” button and hide any advertisement you don’t like.

A few weeks ago, we shared our plans to introduce advertising on Instagram. Today, we want to be the first to show you an example of what an advertisement on Instagram looks like. We’re starting with a handful of businesses that are already great community members to make sure the ads you see are creative and engaging. If you see an ad that doesn’t interest you, you can tap the “…” in the bottom right corner to hide it and tell us what you didn’t like. This will help us bring you more interesting ads over time. You can also tap the “Sponsored” label above an ad at any time to learn more about ads on Instagram. As always, you own your own photos and videos. The introduction of advertising won’t change this.
